  1.            Important Notes for Presto! VideoWorks v1.5 Rev.3 Release

  4. Welcome to the world of multimedia video production!
  5.  
  6. Presto! VideoWorks is your best choice for video capturing and editing to produce
  7. your multimedia presentation programs. The following lists the important
  8. information about Presto! VideoWorks that is not contained in the documentation or
  9. on-line help message in the software.
  10.  
  11. 1. This revision of Presto! VideoWorks has new enhanced functions as follows,
  12.    you may refer to VWORK.HLP for detail description :
  13.     . The 'Import' function now includes FLI and FLC animation file formats
  14.       and image files like BMP, TGA, JPG, TIF, PCX and PCD.
  15.     . Now you can use the drag-and-drop feature to edit the AVI files:
  16.     1) Open multiple AVI files for editing.
  17.     2) Click and drag the mouse left button in the source AVI window
  18.        and then move the mouse to the target AVI window.
  19.     3) When you release the mouse button in the target window, a pop-up
  20.        menu will appear listing three functions to combine the videos.
  21.     4) The three functions are Insert, Paste Insert and Paste Overwrite
  22.        which are the same as the corresponding commands in "Edit" menu.
  23.        With drag-and-drop, it is much easier for you to combine any
  24.        two videos.
  25.     5) If you drop the video in the client area of Presto! VideoWorks in
  26.        Step 2, a new AVI file will be extracted from the source AVI file.
  27.     . New 'Undo' function is included in 'Edit' menu.
  28.     . New 'Magic' function included in 'Edit' menu which provide panning,
  29.       zooming, 3D rotating and color keying functions all in one.
  30.     . New 'Print to Video' function in 'File' menu.
  31.     . New 'Clean' function in 'Edit' menu.
  32.     . New 'Synchronize' function in 'Audio' menu.
  33.     . New 'Close All' function in 'Window' menu.
  34.     . A 'rebuild' button included in media window.
  35.     . Film Edit window now can move audio and video separately.
  36.     . New 'Preference' setting included.
  37.     . New 'Palette' function under Capture menu.
  38.     . New 'Compress...' options under Capture Video Sequence settings.
  39.     . When capture single frame from video source, Video Work will also
  40.       build a new AVI document.

  44. 2. Any function that is not included in the user's manual will be explained
  45.    in the help message provided with the software.

  47. 3. Questions & Answers listed below would give you assitance on operation
  48.    in Presto! VideoWorks.

  50.    Q: Why am I having video display and refresh problems with the unselected
  51.       videos on my dektop?
  52.  
  53.    A: Try changing your Windows video display mode to 16 colors.
  54.

  56.    Q: It takes very long to execute every command in Presto! VideoWorks.
  57.       How could I configure my system to obtain the best performance?
  58.  
  59.    A: If your system RAM is large enough, open a RAM drive and set
  60.       Presto! VideoWorks working directory to this drive in the Preferences
  61.       dialog box. Also, if your hard disk contains much free space and is fast
  62.       enough, set your AVI file compressor to "None" and then use a better
  63.       compressor when saving the file. Please close any unused AVI file while
  64.       using a RAM drive.

  67.    Q: My hard disk still has very large free space. Why can't I open files
  68.       for running out of space?
  69.  
  70.    A: First, check on your working directory specified in the Preferences
  71.       dialog box and see if there is enough space in that hard disk. (Please
  72.       switch to DOS or File Manager to check it out.) If the space is not enough,
  73.       please close all the unused files for editing. If the space is enough
  74.       and you can still not open files, maybe the resources of the MCI driver
  75.       are all occupied. Please close all the unused MDI windows. If there is
  76.       still no improvement, try to change your working directory.

  79.    Q: Why the Video Viewer been dimmed (disabled)?
  80.  
  81.    A: Video Viewer will be disabled when the driver of the capture
  82.       card is not installed or failed, or when the capture card encounters
  83.       a failure on installation, i.e. hardware conflict. Please check on
  84.       your hardware manual to figure out the problem.

  87.    Q: Why the audio capturing function been dimmed (disabled)?
  88.  
  89.    A: The audio capturing function is disabled while the driver of the sound
  90.       card fails or sound card installation fails.

  93.    Q: I have sucessfully installed the sound card and drivers, but I still
  94.       cannot capture the Video with sound?
  95.  
  96.    A: First, check to see if the "Capture With Audio" is set in the capture
  97.       dialog box. Second, check to see if you have turn on the 'line in' volume
  98.       of your sound card.
  99.       Check the "Capture With Audio", turn on the line in volume (Normally
  100.       in a Mixer program) and try it again.

  103.    Q: When will the Preview or Overlay mode been dimmed (disabled)?
  104.  
  105.    A: Not all the capture cards both support Preview and Overlay mode.
  106.       One of them will be dimmed if the capture card does not support
  107.       the corresponding mode.
  108.  
  109.    Q: Why the video become blurred and the video looks darkened
  110.       after applying several effects?
  111.  
  112.    A: Some compressors, including Microsoft Video 1, Intel Indeo, SuperMac,
  113.       and Microsoft RLE, are lossy compressors which would cause data lost
  114.       if applied too many times. As a result the video look blurred.
  115.       Please change the video format to Non-Compressed, and then
  116.       proceed to applying the effects.

  118.    Q: Before I apply the Insert or Paste Insert function, there are 16 frames
  119.       in clipboard. Why are there only 10 frames left after pasting?
  120.  
  121.    A: Presto! VideoWorks will make some transformation to the pasted fragment
  122.       to fit the destination AVI, such as video format, compressor, frame rate,
  123.       audio format, sampling rate, etc. If the frame number after pasting
  124.       does not match that before pasting, maybe the frame rate is different
  125.       between the pasted fragment and destination AVI. If you want to keep
  126.       the original frame number, please change the frame rate of the selected
  127.       frame fragment to be the same as the destination AVI with the "Keep
  128.       Playback Speed" option disabled before cutting or copying it to the
  129.       clipboard.

  131.       Q: I edited  .AVI file that came from my CD-ROM. When I try to play the
  132.       edited file before saving to harddisk, I cannot have it played in normal
  133.       speed. Why ?
  134.  
  135.       A: You should rebuild the edited .AVI files first. Simply click "rebuild"
  136.       button at video window. This action will rearrange the .AVI files that are
  137.       suitable to be playback with MCI driver.
